The last version had too many pages and was a bit confusing. Hopefully now it is much simpler! Click a topic on the front page and be presented with 6/7 tasks such as create a website or make an e-book or handling data and then by clicking the task, you are presented with a list of objectives. These have mainly been the ones that were used on the ‘I Can Statement’ pages before but some have been adapted from Simon Haughton’s curriculum too. My original statements were levelled, sort-of, but I have removed these.

The levels have gone because I have found that for a start, levelling website design or photo-editing was tricky, but also that some children in Year 1 had met the Level 4 objectives and others in Year 5 hadn’t been shown the Level 2 objectives. So now it is just next steps instead. It might be that three steps are taught in one lesson and another might take six weeks, but those are the steps to creating a task. On the assessment page I have added a grid that can be ticked off and signed as the children achieve the objectives. We are starting this on Monday, so I will let you know how it goes!

On the page with the objectives there are links to software that can be used as well as an indication if this is free, online or installed on the PC. Under each software title I will add how-to videos and where possible examples of children’s work, blog posts and other useful information too.

I have nearly (again) sorted the basic skeleton of the site and I can now crack on with creating how-to videos. I will start with the tools that we are using in school this half term, but will aim to have it all online by the end of November. I know I have said this before, but I really feel that this will work now and after a few versions that haven’t worked, I am happier.

Updates over the past week or so include:

• Separate pages for each of the areas we are looking at
• E-Safety is now ‘Digital Society’ thanks to the #digitalstudies guys at Rethinking ICT
• Logos showing a whole range of tools have been added to most pages. Once I have given examples of the tools that can be used, I can now start making help guides and writing lesson plans for them.

Next job? Add links and descriptions to the tools and then write a list of the how-to videos that need to be made. Even without dedicated lesson plans, the links to suitable sites should help many people to get started.
